A QUIET PLACE IN THE COUNTRY

Leonardo Ferri, a highly successful painter moves to an ancient villa in the Veneto, suffering from an emotional crisis. On one of the walls in the house is a portrait of a young woman. Strange noises come from the rooms in the villa, the doors close alone and objects fall down by themselves... The ghost woman lives inside the villa walls, trying to kill Flavia, Leonardo''''s lover.

Leonardo (Franco Nero), a celebrated artist plagued by nightmares that stop him working, buys a country villa to recover, but as he traces the story of its previous owner his agent and lover Flavia (Vanessa Redgrave) suffers one mysterious accident after another. Elio Petri's 1968 ghost story doubles as a meditation on art, sex and madness, scored by Ennio Morricone.
